The Sacrament of Baptism
Handing on your Faith
“Parents are the first teachers of their children in the ways of Faith; May they also be the best of teachers” (Rite of Infant Baptism).
.
Mass and preparation
If you haven’t been to Mass for a while and would like your child to be baptised in the Catholic faith we would like to see you. You can talk to Canon Paul after Mass about your child’s baptism. If your child is unders even years old you will be asked to attend some preparation sessions either in a group or individually at St. Alban’s church.
Children over the age of Seven
Older children over ‘the age of reason’ (7 years old but not yet reached the age of 18yrs) will be expected to attend a longer programme of preparation.
Preparation sessions for Baptisms will begin during the Autumn subject to Canon Paul’s availability and busy schedule. Watch out for dates in the Church Newsletter.
Preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism for children up to 7 yrs
During the preparation you will be given an outline of the Baptism service, items for consideration, and some insight into the commitment you are undertaking for your child. Meetings for this year have been completed, there will be more next year. . If you wish your child to be baptised, please contact Canon Paul to express your interest.
Your child will need at least one Godparent who must be Catholic (that is, confirmed in the Catholic Church) and over 16. They cannot be the mother or father of the child. Adults who are not baptised, or those who are baptised and/or confirmed in other Christian denominations, can be asked to participate in the ceremony and be witnesses.
Adults
If you are an adult interested in being Baptised and Confirmed into the Catholic Church join us for Sunday Masses where you will receive a warm welcome. You can talk to Canon Paul about what to do next.
