It is wonderful to see the Crucifix Scene restored

.

The removal of the Crucifix had stirred up a lot of local interest. The Crucifix scene on the corner of George Street and Conway Road means a lot to many people of faith or no faith. So many people have a sentimental association with the scene. One person said, “It’s very odd not seeing the cross overlooking Pontypool even if it is for a short period of time.”

It was taken down to be repaired. The wooden cross has been replaced. The figures, Mary on the right of Jesus and John on the left, are made of iron and prone to weathering, they have been sanded but they are still too wait to paint after all the rain. The figure of Jesus has been repaired and painted. We are very grateful to the contractor who fulfilled the promise to have the work completed in time for Christmas.

Thank you to all those who contributed to the cost.

Thank you Hayley for allowing us to use your pictures.
